My MetalloClear Experience

2015

My doctor prescribed MetalloClear by Metagenics for me due to high levels of mercury and lead in my system according to my urinalysis.

Starting Levels:
Mercury: 9.8 (the test considers anything less than 4 an acceptable level).
Lead: 6 (the test considers anything less than 2 an acceptable level).

Ending Levels:
See this blog post.

I wish I had found some reviews of this stuff online, or other people's experiences with it when I first started, but there wasn't much out there.  That's why I decided to blog through my experience and provide a bit more information here for anyone wondering what MetalloClear is all about.

MetalloClear is a dietary supplement that comes in a bottle with 180 tablets.  It is supposed to "up-regulate the genetic expression of enzymes involved in the metabolism of some heavy metals". The supplements are pretty big in my opinion (3/4 inch in length & 1/4 inch in width), un-coated, they taste bad and are kind of hard to swallow. They're not horse pills by any means, but they are on the bigger side. I was prescribed 2 bottles and advised to finish all 360 tablets.  The recommended dose is 3 in the morning and 3 at night, taking a total of 2 months to get through the detox.  However, my body could not seem to handle a higher dose than 2 in the morning and 1 at night so I stayed at that dose pretty much throughout the whole detox and it took me a little over 4 months to finish (18 weeks). You can read about my experience week by week in my blog posts.

I did experience some side effects such as: headaches, stomach upset and digestive issues, blood sugar issues, swollen joints, muscle aches and mental/mood swings. This happened mostly when I tried to increase my dosage beyond the 2/1.  Whenever I would cut back on my dose, the symptoms would disappear. However, even at 2/1, I did struggle with some headaches and digestive upset that I have to attribute to the MetalloClear because prior to taking these, my digestive system was top notch and I couldn't remember the last time I had a headache. Overall, I just felt pretty lousy during the whole experience. (I should note that, per my doctor, some of the side effects could have been from the mercury moving around my system as it was being detoxed, and not necessarily from the Metalloclear itself.  I just needed to take the detox slower). As you can see though, the side effects were nothing life threatening or serious like you can experience with other heavy metal detox regimes. Also, it's important to remember that everyone is different and your experience with MetalloClear may be different than mine.

I did feel really off for about a week and a half after I finished.  I was having very odd dizziness sensations that I hadn't had since last year and just felt really off. My doctor told me that there is no withdrawal from stopping the Metalloclear, but I have to believe there is some sort of adjustment period because there is really no other explanation for what I went through the first (roughly) 10 days after stopping.  I did start probiotics again, so maybe it was that, but I'm leaning more towards the Metalloclear. I feel better now though so it was definitely something my body was working out.

  1. After moving to a more natural lifestyle and eating a REAL FOOD (organic and grass-fed and whole grains mostly) I thought I was strong enough to take the plunge to have braces put on my teeth at 51 years old. I am just realizing I have heavy metal toxicity from braces I had put on August 2017 and removed in February 2018 after putting a timeline together that my severe symptoms of insomnia, hot/cold flashes, brain fog, unexplained weight loss (down to 101 from 118 lbs) debilitating surging where something was activating my SNS (sympathetic nervous system) 24 hours a day and causing total fatigue all started September 5, 2017. After removing the braces my body started detoxing. Not a picnic either. I am 6 days in on detox and was given Metalloclear by my Chiro. I was curious about the dosage. I read your blog and wonder what dosage to take. I have read 3 pills AM and 3 pills PM with food. I am sensitive to any kind of medicines or supplements probably because of my small build. I am curious if you have any further input. I will pray about it. Thanks for posting this information. God bless you.

    1. Hi Kim, I'm so sorry for what you have experienced. When I started Metalloclear, my doctor told me to start slowly (I am also sensitive to medications). So, I began with just one pill in the morning for a few days, then I increased to one in the morning and one at night for the next few days. After that, it was 2 in the morning and 1 at night, followed by 2 in the morning and 2 at night, etc. She told me to take not of any "detox" reactions and if I was having them, I should drop back down to the previous lower dose I was on until the symptoms passed, if that makes sense the way I'm describing it. From what I recall, since it was a long time ago, I never made it to 3/3. I personally couldn't handle that high of a dose, but I did well on the dose my body could handle, which I believe was 2am/2pm. It took me longer to finish the entire course of treatment because I didn't get to the highest recommended dose, but that was okay. The point is that you finish and not how fast. I hope this helps some! Feel free to post anytime. I will be keeping you and your recovery in prayers. God bless! ((HUGS))

  2. I am also very medicine sensitive, but had no reaction to the 3 pills 2xpd. We are all different. I want to know where I'm picking up the lead poisoning because if I am unwittingly adding to the load then chelation is a joke. Help!
